Diana Vreeland
Diana Vreeland was initially known for her 'Why Don't You...' column which she wrote for Harpers Bazaar. Diana was loved for her joie de vivre lines such as 'why don't you have your cigarettes stamped with a personal insignia' and 'why don't you rinse your blond child's hair with dead champagne...'. She would later become editor-in-chief of Vogue. She was credited with the discovery of it-girl Edie Sedgwick and also assisted then First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy (Jackie O) with her style.
As soon as I watched 1957 film, Funny Face, I knew the character of Maggie Prescott (played by Kay Thompson) was fashioned after the inimitable Diana Vreeland. Afterall, it was she who coined the expression 'pizazz'.
'I loathe narcissism, but I approve of vanity' - Diana Vreeland
